Zel Kaute
Born Ysella (Zel) Heather Kaute, Penzance, 1984.
Vegetarian and Animal rights supporter from age eight. Competition winning violinist age 12. Discovered grunge/punk in early teens & musical interests turned away from classical, to music that satiated my desire to vent angst and change the world.
My dad was a drummer and I spent much of my formative years watching him play, hence my gravitation towards the drums. My youth was spent drumming in many local bands, including (most likely) one of the first female punk/rock bands to spring from that far out in the Cornish wilderness.
Age 20, I moved to London to expand my musical connections, forming soul/metal trio ‘Invasion’. One relatively successful debut album later, the capricious nature of band chemistry reared its ugly head, and Invasion is no longer.
Early 2010, Ivona Behalova asks me to drum for her vision of a female/punk/blues/revolutionary/riotgrrl band and I accept.
